Atrevida Beer Co. is in Colorado Springs, CO and is the first Latin owned brewery in the state. Jess, the owner and head brewer, found her passion for beer while stationed in Germany with her husband, Rich. She wanted to bring her Mexican-inspired flavors to beer. Jess won Beerland with her Dona Neta. This brewery is female forward and diversity is on tap!
Tragedy struck their family when they were at a gay club celebrating a friend’s birthday. A gunman entered the bar and took 5 lives and injured 19 others before Rich and another man were able to disarm the shooter. Rich’s military training kicked in. Not only is he a hero for our country, but also for his community! He doesn’t like the word hero though.
I was one of many who ordered mercyh to support and thank them for their bravery. So not only were they dealing with their emotions, feelings and healing from this horrible experience, but we’re now overwhelmed with orders that they did not have the product to fulfill. But they came through for me and the others trying to support them. I hope more importantly they have come through for themselves.
Jess, Rich and the Atrevida family definitely prove they are altrevida, which translates to daring or in slang could mean sassy. They also live up to what my shirt says, “good intentions don’t change things, actions do!”
